The Concrete Safaris Community - participants, families, and neighbors - benefit from the service of hundreds of volunteers each year. Groups are welcome to volunteer at Concrete Safaris from April through December. Here are opportunities for community and groups to make your mark with service. Thank you in advance for your partnership.
Get outdoors and active while helping to maintain CS' educational gardens. Activities may include:

Groups of up to 100 people can attend once or as often as you would like to volunteer.
Every adult must register separately. Everyone under age 17 must be registered by a parent or guardian.
Yes to both - as long as a designated adult is present in a 1:10 ratio for youth or a 1:5 ratio for children for the entire event.
Yes, you may do your community service hours for school, juvenile justice, civic or other purposes so long as our site has been approved by your organization. Ask your teacher, court officer, or primary contact whether this activity will count towards your hours. Bring a form from your agency for our staff to sign. Let the lead staff member know that you are seeking a signature for proof of hours before the event starts on the day of the event, so that staff member knows you were present. You will only receive a staff signature for hours that you were present.
These events are free and open to the public.
Dress in layers prepared to get dirty and sweaty.
Keep in mind that you are registering to volunteer in a youth development and career readiness setting. We, therefore, have instituted a dress code for volunteers which mimics our internal code:
1. Everyone’s feet must be covered. No crocs, yeezies, ballet flats, sandals, or any other shoe with manufactured or human-made holes in them.
2. Clothing that completely covers chest, shoulders, torso is required… You may wear shorts longer than your fingertips, or pants. Ripped clothing is not permitted.
3. Baseball style or bucket hats that cover the head and sunglasses are encouraged to reduce sun exposure.
Bring a bottle of water and a snack so that you stay hydrated. There are many bodegas, cafes, restaurants, and supermarkets with delicious food and beverage for you to choose.
Smoking, vaping, and doing drugs of any kind during any of our programs are not permitted. While it may be legal to smoke marijuana in NYC, you may not be under the influence while volunteering with us.
You will be provided with gloves and tools for the duration of the event. All materials must be returned at the end before you leave.
We prefer that everyone who can register online does so in advance of the event.

In our experience, most parents have phones and can use them to register their children online or they can utilize a computer at your school or agency to register their child. If you are bringing a youth group and require paper copies, we can send you a PDF to copy and distribute to parents.
Mad Fun Farm: Take the 6 or Q to 96th Street and walk towards 98th Street and Third Avenue.
Jefferson Gardens: Take the 6 to 116th Street and walk towards 115th Street and Second Avenue.

Non-profits and schools are invited to offer programming on the streets of East Harlem at one of our many events.
DOE School Administrators, let's partner to bring JungleGym to your Back-to-School or End-of-Year Celebrations.
NYCHA Tenants' Associations in East Harlem, let's partner to bring JungleGym to your Family Day.
JungleGym can accommodate tables of 1 - 3 volunteers.
JungleGym events at schools or NYCHA developments are held at an agreed-upon time with the partnering group in the summer.
All of our events are located between 97th and 116th Streets, and Park and Second Avenues at an agreed-upon and permitted location. We recommend traveling by mass transit via the 6 or Q, depending on the location. You can also walk from the 2 or 3 or take a bus, depending on the location event.
We do not charge community groups bringing an activity to attend. We expect you to leave the space where you tabled equal to or cleaner than when you arrived. If you use chalk, it must be removed from the city street before you leave for the day.
For tabling or stations, we may be able to provide you with a table and up to 2 chairs, as available. Ask in advance to confirm. Tents cannot be provided.
Make sure to wear your organization's t-shirt or logo so that you can be easily identified by staff and attendees of the event. Bring a bottle of water and a snack so that you stay hydrated. There are many bodegas, cafes, restaurants, and supermarkets with delicious food and beverage for you to choose.
Your child may attend JungleGym so long as there is an adult present with him or her throughout the event and you can also safely volunteer at your station. We do not offer babysitting services for children.
