Green Exercise Days
For Volunteer Groups
- In the Garden: Each child in the City Surfers program has the opportunity to bring his or her traditional school class to Mad Fun Farm for a full day of mentoring, environmental health education, and fun through our Green Exercise Day program. Youth and volunteers install segments of the master plans for Mad Fun Farm (98th Street & Third Avenue) and Jefferson Gardens (113th Street and Second Avenue), created by children in our City Surfers program, while learning how to improve their health. Together, they might plant vegetables and herbs, create garden art, complete an fitness routine with exercises like lunges and hula hooping, spread woodchips to create garden paths, or plant shrubs.
- On Bicycles: Volunteers cycle with our City Surfers participants on urban adventures throughout New York City, which can include fishing, games, healthy snacks, and more.
- On the Street: Concrete Safaris hosts our Summer PlayStreets, shutting down East 113th Street for a full day of outdoor play for neighborhood children.
Past sponsors have included: AOL, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte & Touche, JP Morgan, MEC, Morgan Stanley, Nautica, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Rabin Martin, Timberland, United Healthcare, and more.
Word on the Street
THANK YOU for letting us come and be a part of their day! We did have a great time and think the work you all are doing there is amazing. We really value our partnership with Concrete Safaris and love that it's so easy for AOLers to get involved. We hope to have a chance to come back to the gardens again.
