Work Out Your Adventure

Our Programs

Concrete Safaris offers tri-weekly after school workshops in which youth (ages 7-9) learn to be proactive community leaders via outdoor physical fitness, gardening, and hiking activities as well as experiential education projects. The organization also offers project-based programming for high school students.

Experiential Education Projects

Paradise Garden

In 2008, CS Explorers (ages 9-12) designed, installed, and named Paradise Garden, a shade perennial and butterfly garden at the heart of NYC Housing Authority’s Washington Houses in East Harlem. They are the first children to build a compost unit on NYCHA property and lead 100+ youth and staff at Union Settlement Association in a year-round composting, gardening education, and physically active program.

The Farm-In-The-Projects Initiative

In 2009, CS Explorers (ages 7-8)  designed Mad Fun Farm located adjacent to Paradise Garden. Installation began in April 2009 during Earth Week.

Green Exercise Days

Each child has the opportunity to bring his or her class to Mad Fun Farm for a full day of mentoring, environmental health and diabetes prevention education, and fun through our Green Exercise Day program. Youth install segments of the CS Explorers master plan for the space, while learning how to improve their health.

For Youth / By Youth Workshops

CS Explorers (ages 9-12) are creating workshops to engage local youth in the urban environmental health movement.

Wilderness Education & Photography

CS Explorers hike in local parks and regional mountains where they exercise, learn leadership skills and environmental ethics, and photograph their surroundings. They also take photos of the garden, farm, and special events.
